TVN Honors First Female Alumni of the Year

     She’s bright. She’s charming. She’s a role model. And she’s an alumnus of The Village Network. Tessa Walters was honored as Alumni of the Year at June’s Celebration Day. She is the first female named to the list from TVN.
     Tessa will graduate from the University of Akron this spring with an associate’s degree in Health Care Office Management and is currently employed by the United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties. She oversees the Wayne/Holmes RX – a plan she initiated with grant money. The plan assists uninsured families by helping them obtain prescription medications.

Akron Community Foundation Grant Updates TVN-Akron

     Updates TVN-Akron are complete according to Chuck Baldwin, program director at the Akron TVN residential facility, and it’s making a world of difference for more than 100 Akron youth participating in organization’s residential treatment and educational programs.
     The needed building updates were done with the help of a $10,000 Akron Community Foundation grant awarded to TVN in November 2007. The grant money helped purchase carpeting and furniture for the lobby, hallways and bedrooms, a commercial microwave and a defibrillator.

Celebration Day Something to Cheer About

     Hundreds participated in the annual Celebration Day at The Village Network-Boys’ Village Campus, June 25. Local citizens, volunteers and supporters, city officials and new board members toured the campus, viewed displays highlighting the year and celebrated the organization’s successes with a barbeque picnic.
     One success was being named Agency of the Year by the Alliance for Children and Families, a national membership association of non-profit human service providers in the United States and Canada.

Calling All TVN-Boys’ Village Alumni

     TVN-Boys’ Village Campus in Wooster will host an Alumni Picnic Sunday, Aug. 10, Noon to 4:00 p.m. for past participants in the Boys’ Village residential program. All alumni are encouraged to visit the campus, renew friendships and share their stories with current residents.
     Alumni are encouraged to register for the family outing by calling 330-202-3861 or RSVP online at www.thevillagenetwork.org.
     This isn’t the first time alumni of Boys’ Village have met according to Bob Maruna, chair of The Village Network Alumni Committee, but it is the first time there will be a move to establish a formal alumni association.
